Swindon’s largest and most colourful event returns on Saturday, 31 July at the Town Gardens, Old Town. The Chair of the Mela’s Organising Committee, Mr Jaspal Singh Bhui, said "We have had a very challenging task during the last 7 months in getting this year’s Mela organised but I am so pleased to say we are now well on the road to getting another fantastic event ready for the people of Swindon".
In response to many useful suggestions received from visitors to previous Mela’s, the organisers have tried to make changes to the events programme and have concentrated on more input from community groups and greater visitor participation. The responses from these groups have been very good and visitors can now look forward to an improved performance especially from younger people in the local community.
Understandably, the past year has been difficult in getting organisations to sponsor the event and while we have secured some funding for this year’s event, we still seek more sponsors and volunteers not only for the benefit of the visitors but also to create a stronger link between industry organisations and service providers and the people of Swindon. Several of last year’s sponsors mentioned that they had much success in accessing many visitors very easily and engaging with them particularly to inform them of the benefits provided by the organisation represented at the Mela.
