It was very wet in Swindon town centre on Saturday 24 November but about a thousand people packed into the Brunel Centre to see CBeebies star Mike the Knight swtich on the Christmas Lights in the dry.
The lights switch on was the finale of a family-friendly day at the centre, when Santa arrived in town on his sleigh, pulled by his real live reindeer. He has set up his Christmas Grotto on the first floor of the centre at the top of escalator, between Marks & Spencer and Boots.
Children were able to pet the reindeer and wonder at the snowman stilt walker, a juggler and a balloon modeller. Mike the Knight put in several appearances during the afternoon to meet children.
Andy Wynn, Manager of The Brunel Centre said: “It was the first time for many years that the Brunel Centre has had a Christmas Lights Switch on Day. This year we put an emphasis on what younger children would enjoy as the shopping centre is very popular with parents who tell us they find it easy to shop here.
"It was a really successfull day and with the adjacent car park offering parking for four hours for just £2, we’re offering a great experience for shoppers in the run up to Christmas."
