Youngsters at Moredon Primary School are celebrating the award of their second Eco Schools Green Flag award.
To achieve the award again, the school had to show their commitment to five Eco Schools topics, instead of three. Over the last two years children have learnt about and taken practical action to save energy, reduce water usage, improve the school grounds, engage in healthy living and strive for greater biodiversity.
Teacher Jenna Godfrey said Green Ambassador children in each class make sure that everybody is thinking ecologically so that electricity or water is not used for longer than necessary. “We’ve all become keen gardeners,” she said. “Planting beds are kept free of weeds so that bulbs and flowers looked their best and we made bird feeders.
“The children loved being able to show off their produce at Harvest Festival and all the classes took part in Forest School activities exploring woodland along Hreod Burna.
“It’s been hard work but a lot of fun; we’re all extremely proud of keeping our Green Flag.”
