MUTTON…. an original fast paced series of comedy sketches celebrating the humour found within women to be enjoyed by fellow women and also their men!!
Performed, written and directed by three amazingly talented ladies Jean Heard, Donna Flinn and Julia Munroe collectively known as ‘the mutton girls’, the show ‘Mutton’ continues to collect fans, rave reviews and ‘sold out’ signs in every town it plays.
The show, based around re-occurring characters in everyday situations, allows the audience to freely laugh out loud and celebrate that inevitable mature ‘coming of age’ which is no longer fashionable to shy away from!! The girls are shown enjoying life….mostly, and grabbing ‘by the horns ‘whatever is thrown their way, having a ball and in their eyes ‘being normal’!!! However, is this how others see them? When we leave home in the mornings secure that we look stunning to the world…are we? And will others celebrate our joy and jubilance? Mutton demonstrates that it’s quite easy and yes, permissible to ‘get it wrong’…well sometimes!!!
Without the use of blatant vulgarity no subject is taboo! Memory loss, HRT and bladder weakness are tackled with openness and without shame allowing the girls' mainly female audiences to revel in the fact that ‘this happens to other woman’!! The humour is increased by sharing those all too familiar moments where we wonder ‘why have I come upstairs’? ‘I must have been looking for something in the cupboard’!! experiences which we all think will never come….but boy do they just!!!!
A huge success at the Edinburgh fringe in 2004, Mutton have toured continuously since, playing to arts centres and theatres, ranging from The Playhouse at Epsom, Wolverhampton Arena, The Yvonne-Arnaud at Guildford and The Lowry at Salford, all venues enjoying a full house. Jean, Julia and Donna all carry huge pedigrees in theatre and music, their experiences evident in their first class, polished and slick performances which leave the audiences on their feet celebrating the fact that ‘it’s ok to laugh at ourselves and others!!!
Any woman dreading the inevitable should see this show. It’s a celebration of the resilience of womankind. Forty and 50 something…bring it on!!!! Halifax Courier
