A new club is launching in Swindon, aimed at helping owner managed businesses to kick-start their marketing by overcoming the obstacles that can hold them back.
Monday 27 February, 8.30am to 11am, will see the inaugural meeting of the Marketing Breakfast Club, which offers professional marketing advice and the benefits of meeting regularly with a group of like-minded small business owners, sharing their expertise and experiences.
The club is the brainchild of Carolyn Page, of South Marston-based marketing consultancy Colporteur, who decided to launch the group to help meet the marketing needs of small businesses.
She believes the club’s recipe of marketing, muffins and muesli will appeal particularly to owners of small businesses who can feel isolated, but will be encouraged through the club to gain marketing momentum. Already a number have signed up.
“There are three key elements to the club: getting marketing know-how from an expert, gaining support and ideas from fellow group members, and having the time to take action,” said Carolyn. “Much more than simply talking about marketing, the club will offer the opportunity for members to get on with their marketing tasks; each person will do some work while they are there, whether that’s updating their website, writing a newsletter, or making sales calls.”
The club will meet at Basepoint Business Centre in Rivermead, Swindon, and run for a year. At the end of each quarter there will be an opportunity for new members to join.
Marketing Breakfast Club taster sessions are available on Friday March 16 and Tuesday April 17, to give people an idea of what the club offers.
One business already to sign up is The Village Apartments, run by Georgina Kirby, who first attended a taster session. She said: “I came away energised and enthused about this new way of doing marketing. It was like having a whole department available for ideas and momentum!”
Carolyn said: “Many businesses struggle to make time for their marketing, even though they know it is essential. By joining The Marketing Breakfast Club for a year – during which time we have nine meetings and members receive three Marketing Momentum packs – members will have the support they need not only to get going with their marketing, but to keep up the momentum.
“Basepoint was the natural choice for our first club with its excellent facilities and thriving small business community. The team at Basepoint have given us so much support.”
Lyn Chapman, Centre Manager at Basepoint Swindon, said: “With many new start up and small businesses there is a need for such a club, which will help business owners find some time each month to focus on their marketing needs with help and guidance from an industry expert.”
