Work has begun on the new £10 million annexe at New College’s Queens Drive campus, which will open in time for the September 2011 student intake, increasing capacity by 35 per cent.
The college is now almost full with over 3,000 16 to 18 year olds enrolled, and a further 10,000 adult and business learners engaged in courses.
Graham Taylor, New College principal, pictured right, said, “we are dedicated to providing the best learning environment for the people of Swindon; whether it’s young learners studying for A levels and GCSEs, apprenticeships or other vocational qualifications, mature students taking degrees or topping up their qualifications, adults learning a new hobby or local businesses training their workforce.”
“The new annexe will help us achieve our aim, providing learners with state-of-the-art facilities.”
It will accommodate science and maths, business and enterprise, health and beauty, creative and media studies.
Student services will also have more space to give information, advice and guidance on careers and university entry.
