Football fans have a special reason to cheer – thanks to three new
state-of-the-art five-a-side football pitches in Swindon.
The new 'third generation' pitches, at the Link Centre, in West Swindon were launched by the Mayor of Swindon coun Michael Barnes and Swindon Town player Michael Pook. Children who attend Swindon Football in the Community courses were the first to try out the pitches at the opening ceremony on 5 July.
Built to Football Association Standards, the flood-lit pitches will host a wide range of football, including junior club training, casual teams and adult leagues run by Swindon Town Football in the Community.
Swindon Borough Council has created the £200,000 weatherproof facility to meet the growing demand for football facilities in the borough. The pitches are open to everyone and can be booked casually week to week or block-booked for regular play.
Weather-permitting, the finishing touches to the pitches will be complete and ready for public ise on Monday 16 July.
Coun Nick Martin, Cabinet Member for Resources, pictured with the Mayor and Michael Pook, said "we are responding to the increased demand for places to play football in the borough. I am
delighted to have been involved in delivering this fantastic facility,
suitable for people of all ages and standard of play. The council is
committed to investing in recreation services for the whole community."
Opening times are 9am until 10pm Monday to Saturday, 9am until 6pm on Sundays. To book a pitch call Link reception on (01793) 445566 or online at: www.swindon.gov.uk/sportsbookings
