The highly anticipated Jurys Inn Swindon hotel opened on 12 June, leading the way in regenerating the Swindon town centre and creating more than 80 jobs for local people.
Just a five minute walk from the train station, the 229-bedroom Jurys Inn Swindon with seven dedicated conference rooms aims to become an important partner to local businesses and work closely with the local community. Jurys Inns’ strategic development partner, McAleer and Rushe, have invested £20 million in the hotel launch.
The opening of the hotel has given a huge boost to employment in the area following a successful recruitment drive with Swindon Jobcentre Plus which saw 45 local people hired. A further 30 local jobs have also been created.
The Jurys Inns team has worked closely with The New Swindon Company, to ensure the hotel is an integral part of the town’s regeneration program aimed at attracting a wider audience to Swindon.
Chris Hitchings, Director of Development at The New Swindon Company comments: “We are very happy to welcome Jurys Inns to Swindon and have been involved in the complete development process, from finding a suitable site for the hotel to facilitating negotiations with Swindon Borough Council to ensure the hotel becomes an integral part of Swindon life and helps the town achieve sustainable economic growth. The hotel is the perfect building block for further regeneration plans including the development of Union Square which starts construction in summer 2010.”
Andy Gray, General Manager of Jurys Inn Swindon commented: “We’re very excited to be welcoming the first guests to Jurys Inn Swindon. We have a great team of staff on board and are very proud that most of them are local Swindon people. We are all committed to offering the award winning welcome which Jurys Inns is known for and hope the hotel will become a central part of the Swindon community. We look forward to working with local businesses and people.”
CALM, a local children’s charity which cares for the needs of families within the Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust who are dealing with cancer, planted a time capsule at Jurys Inn Swindon when finishing touches were being made to the hotel. The children included pictures they had drawn themselves which represent what Swindon means to them. This marks the kick off of a relationship between Jurys Inn Swindon and CALM.
