Green electricity company Ecotricity has submitted a planning application to Swindon Borough Council to build a new wind park on land at the Honda car factory.
Isobel Downey, senior project manager with Ecotricity said “The three wind turbines proposed for this location could together produce 17.78 million units of green electricity every year, enough to power the equivalent of an estimated 5,300 homes.”
The power generated will be used by Honda in its manufacturing process on weekdays, ensuring that energy distribution losses will be minimised, then fed into the grid at night and at weekends when the plant is not operating.
Ecotricity are keen for as many people as possible in the local area who are positive about wind energy to contact Swindon’s planning officer by 10 November to express their support.
All correspondence in favour of the development should carry the planning application number S/10/1073, and be forwarded either by email to: RMorris@swindon.gov.uk or by letter to Planning Dept, Swindon Borough Council, Wat Tyler House, Beckingham Street, Swindon, SN1 2JH.
