Twelve of the first children who will start at Tadpole Farm Church of England Academy in September were given a guided tour of their new, temporary, school building on 3 July.
They were encouraged to use their imaginations as Redhouse Community Centre in Frankel Avenue, where they will be based for at least four months, is still being constructed.
Surrounded by building workers, headteacher Jane Leo and Paul Morris, building manager for contractors Wilmot Dixon, below, showed them the space to be occupied by the nursery unit, above, and the other room which will used by the reception class, below.
The first intake will be for up to 60 reception children in two forms of entry, with a 52 place nursery providing morning and afternoon sessions. The building is scheduled for handover in the last week of August and staff will have about 10 days to unpack furniture, equipment and materials in time to welcome the children
Work on the permanent school in the Tadpole Garden development is now underway and should be ready for January 2015, when an access road and footpath routes are completed.
"It was lovely to show the children where they will be going to school after the summer holiday," said Mrs Leo. "Even though there were electricians on towers and workers cutting plaster board in the rooms, they were unfazed by what they saw and were telling us what should be there when they start, like toys and books"
Crest Homes have provided a shop unit opposite Isambard School at Redhouse Village Centre so that Mrs Leo and her staff team have a base in the area.
She is holding drop-in sessions for parents and children every Tuesday from 2pm to 3pm in July and August, except Tuesday 26 August.
Their will also be regular play and storytime sessions for children to meet their teachers and teaching assistants, including a pyjama party on Thursday 10 July.
Also on 10 July, 5pm, Paul Morris and his team at Wilmot Dixon are inviting residents living close to the Redhouse Community Centre site to a summer barbeque party to thank them for their tolerance of the building work in front of their homes.
