No sooner had registration for the 2014 Mad March Hare opened in November than Sheryl Henderson from North Swindon leapt straight in to become the first entrant.
The 37 year old mother of two took part in the 2013 event, spurred on by a group of children from Bridlewood Primary School.
Sheryl started running in June 2012. Last year’s Mad March Hare was her first event and despite the freezing weather, she completed the 5k route whilst her husband ran in the 10k category, both cheered on by their daughters.
The achievement inspired Sheryl to enter more running events and to immediately register for the 2014 MMH. The big difference is she’ll sport a blue number which means she has entered the 10k run.
The event raises money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and has contributed well over £70,000 from the last six years which is organised entirely by Swindon volunteers.
Sheryl said: “I highly recommend the Mad March Hare for families and beginners because of the fun, the informal atmosphere and the route which does not involve too many hills”.
The Mad March Hare takes place on Sunday 23 March starting and finishing at Lydiard Park Academy.
The 5km or 10km routes will take walkers, joggers and runners around parts of West Swindon and through the park.
