Laura Bowman will hang up her telephone and exchange it for a dressing room key this November when she takes to the stage in TS Theatre Productions One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.
“I have taken phone calls for people enquiring about the show – but I always maintain my professionalism,” says Laura. “I wonder if audiences will recognise my voice when they hear me speak on stage for the first time.”
Bowman, 28, will star as Nurse Ratched in the forthcoming production, based on Ken Kesey’s classic novel. The show is set in a psychiatric hospital and observes Randle Patrick McMurphy’s fight to maintain his individuality despite Nurse Ratched’s demands that he must conform.
“It’s an earthy and gritty production which challenges both my acting abilities and the audience’s understanding of mental health,” she continues.
“For me, the most exciting thing about performing is embodying a character completely different from who I am as a person. I think it is really exciting to have the opportunity to completely transform into another being for one night and then the next day I’ll be back to work.”
“I am most happy when I’m in the theatre – whether I’m on stage or on the Ticket Office. The Wyvern is a superb venue which I am proud to be a part of.”
One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest will be performed at the Wyvern Theatre on Saturday 3 November. Book tickets today at wyverntheatre.org.uk or by calling the Ticket Office on 01793 524 481.
