On time and under budget, the impressive new Sports Hall at Pinewood School, Bourton, Wiltshire was opened in true Pinewood style on 31 May 2014.
Welcome speeches by the Chairman of Governors, David Williamson and Headmaster, Philip Hoyland preceded the ribbon cutting by AP McCoy OBE.
Old Pinewoodians, parents and pupils entered the fabulous building for the first time to see four badminton courts, four mini basketball courts, an indoor hockey pitch, a five a side football pitch, four cricket nets and one full size netball court.
Externally the building was admired for its design and structure which blends traditional techniques with the latest sustainable building innovations.
110 Photo voltaic panels provide electricity for the sports hall lighting, power and panel heaters. The rainwater harvesting system is capable of storing 10,000 litres of rainwater which can then be directly used to irrigate sports pitches or landscaped areas.
Picnic lunches and House matches in the sunshine followed by match tea for all made this a very special day to remember for the 500 plus guests on the day. The Sports Hall opening gave us all a good excuse to celebrate, while completing the 5th stage of the Facilities Development Vision as set out in 2004 by Headmaster, Philip Hoyland.
Co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 3-13.
