Swindon-based company Openwork, the UK’s largest multi-tie mortgage and financial advice network, recently held a community challenge between the months of February and July 2013 to raise over £1,000 for Winston’s Wish, the charity for bereaved children.
The challenge was set to buy much-needed resources for the charity. Openwork were given an ultimate wish-list of 33 items by Winston’s Wish and amazingly they managed to purchase each and every item. The money was raised by holding a variety of wonderful events including a Valentine’s cake sale, a luxury Easter hamper raffle, a buffet, chilli dog sale and a summer hamper raffle.
Dawn Hanley in the Complaints Management Team at Openwork said: “We are delighted that we have been able to raise over £1,000 to buy all of these items for Winston’s Wish! Everyone at Openwork has supported us by taking part in the fundraising events that our team organised and it is very rewarding to know the good that these items are going to do at Winston’s Wish.”
Items included a toy church, vicar and people, model coffin, hearse, play flowers, urns and headstone to be used when discussing ‘what you might see at a funeral’ with young children; a CD player for calming background music when working with children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, as it helps them to concentrate and stay focused; a digital camera so that the children can record their work and activities; bags of kitchen salt for making salt memory jars and many more important items.
Winston’s Wish is so grateful to the Openwork team for their dedication and hard work in raising these vital funds.
Catherine Ind, Chief Executive at Winston’s Wish says “We are absolutely thrilled to receive the dedicated support from Openwork and without companies like them we would not be able to do the vital work that we do at Winston’s Wish. These items will make such a difference to the work that we do with families.”
