The fairy tale success of this stunning opera singing partnership began in 2001 when a Sony talent scout discovered Rebecca Knight and Karen England when busking in Covent Garden to support their singing lessons. They were immediately invited to perform at the FA Cup final in front of five hundred million people across the world and at the UEFA Champions League in Milan, sparking a record company bidding war for their debut album, Beyond Imagination which shot to number one in the Classical Charts, remaining there for eleven weeks and selling over one million copies.
Further high profile appearances followed, from a number of performances for the Queen at the Royal Albert Hall, the launch of the Commonwealth Games at Buckingham Palace and the Proms at the Palace for the Golden Jubilee celebrations. They came to perform in concert with many of the world’s lading orchestras, such as the Philharmonia, the Halle, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and many more.
With Beyond Imagination reaching number four in the U.S. billboard charts, they were hugely popular in America, performing with Placido Domingo at Los Angeles Opera and making history becoming the first classical act ever to perform in Las Vegas at the legendary Stardust Casino.
In 2006 they released their second album, Renaissance, produced by Noel Vine, to huge critical acclaim and have continued a busy international touring schedule while also becoming the subject of three documentaries, two in the UK and one for America’s CBS.
Their enormous popularity lies in their crossover appeal, striving to make classical music more accessible to a wider audience, backed by an exceptional string quartet and pianist. This tour promises a beautiful evening of relaxing classics, featuring all the best loved arias and solos, from the haunting theme in Schindler’s List to Cinema Paradiso, Clair De Lune, the Flower Duet from Lakme and many more, mixed with plenty of humour and fun to delight the fans and charm newcomers in equal measure.
Rebecca Knight (Soprano) is the daughter of opera singer Gillian Knight, who sang as a principal in the famous D’Oyly Carte Opera Company before joining Sadler’s Wells opera and finally becoming a principal at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Karen England (Mezzo Soprano) is delighted to announce she recently gave birth to baby girl Freya at the end of April.
