A revamped Moredon and Rodbourne Cheney Library reopened its doors to book lovers when the Mayor of Swindon Cllr Rex Barnett cut a ribbon on Thursday, February 17.
The library, in Church Walk North off Moredon Road, was closed for three weeks to allow Swindon Borough Council to carry out planned maintenance and repair works which also included a refurbishment. The lobby has also been made smaller so that extra space is created in the main library area and this has accommodated two extra public access computers.
New self service machines, a payment kiosk and smaller counter have also been installed. Disabled access has been improved, a new rear fire exit built along with emergency lighting and an automatic fire detection and alarm system have been fitted. The library has also been redecorated.
Cllr Fionuala Foley, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Corporate Services and the cabinet member responsible for libraries, said: “Moredon and Rodbourne Cheney Library was badly in need of a facelift and the work that has been carried out has really brought it back to life. “I’m sure those people who use the library will notice a big difference and it will hopefully encourage even more people to use this great community facility.”
