Swindon Link is working with Ian and Rosa Matheson, below, to raise money for Angel’s Orphanage in Kathmandu by asking young readers to design and paint a picture which can be made into a greeting card to raise awareness and money for the charity.
Angel, a sherpa guide, and his wife care for 20 orphans with help from Highworth and Swindon based Friends of Angel’s Orphanage.
Set up by Rosa and Ian Matheson, the charity has rehoused the children in a fit for purpose house, provided new locally sourced furniture, bedding and clothing, and funded the supply of electricity and water.
The children are now also attending school thanks to the Friends.
The fundraising continues and we’re asking children to paint a picture of an angel on a piece of plain A4 paper, which must then be mounted on card.
An angel isn’t necessarily one you see at Christmas. It could be anything or anybody who provides care, support, guidance and love for others.
The closing date is 30 August and there will be an exhibition at West Swindon Library in September so that the pictures to be used on the fundraising greetings card can be chosen by the public.
The overall winner will receive a small silver angel, and the top five entries will be used as card designs.
Entry to the competition is free, though donations are welcome. Mark the envelope ‘Paint an Angel’, and send it to Swindon Link, 71 Basepoint Business Centre, West Swindon SN5 7EX or email to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
