Swindon parents are invited to visit the first Open Evening of the year at Churchfields Academy in Salcombe Grove, Swindon on Thursday September 18.
Parents of children of primary school age in the town are welcome to attend the event which will be the first of several to introduce the Academy to potential new students and their parents.
Principal Sharon Kirwan (pictured right) will be giving a short talk about the Academy and its holistic approach to education. In the latest league tables, Churchfields is among the top two schools in the south west for progress across every subject in the curriculum.
Sharon said: “We are looking forward to meeting prospective future students and parents and showing them around this wonderful Academy. The evening will be full of information and will demonstrate the nurturing environment we have here at Churchfields.
“I’d like to also add that any parent who wishes to find out more about the Academy, but cannot attend the opening evening, can get in touch and we’re happy to do a tour of the Academy at a more suitable time.”
Visitors will also be given an opportunity to tour the Academy and its facilities and young people can enjoy fun activities staged by students and teachers in subjects such as mathematics and science.
Churchfields is one of the most multi-cultural schools in Swindon with about a third of its population having English as a second language. Among its pupils, there are children from families with cultural backgrounds as diverse as Goan, Polish and Nepalese to name a few.
This richly diverse community is embraced as one of the Academy’s key strengths as it creates a spirit of cohesion, tolerance and understanding. All students are encouraged to hold true to the Academy’s core values of ambition, achievement, teamwork, honesty, trust and respect.
Within the curriculum, students who don’t have English as a first language are supported by specialist higher level teaching assistants and teachers and are offered discreet lessons to help them improve their English. This enables them to make very rapid progress.
In its external relationships, Churchfields staff and students fund raise for charities and there are also partnerships with businesses in the town. One business partner is Intel, with various events taking place at the school each year. There is also a partnership with Swindon Town Football Club where players often visit the school to inspire students and reinforce their aspirations.
The open evening will run from 5pm to 8pm and anyone needing further information can contact the school by calling 01793 487286 or emailing email@example.com
