Pre-school groups and uniformed youth groups in North Swindon are ready to use a community meeting place at Redhouse Village Centre as soon as it’s built, but an organisation to take responsibility to manage the facility needs to be in place before start of construction.
Funding for the £1.25 million building off Frankel Avenue was secured by Swindon councillor Vera Tomlinson.
Ian Jankinson, chair of Blunsdon St Andrew Parish Council, said council members met with Cllr Tomkinson and members of the borough localities team before Christmas to discuss a business plan for the building.
“We need to work as quickly as we can and begin to put together a governing structure and a robust financial plan to work to.
“The centre must become sustainable as soon as we can make it so.”
But news of progress on building the centre is proving hard to come by. Cllr Tomlinson said an announcement would be made soon. "A lot of work has been put into securing the community centre; I have had many meeting with Crest to get the land at half price. I am hoping to be able to tell the public about a decision shortly."
