Over 700 runners, walkers, buggy pushers and pet owners being pulled along by dogs came together at Lydiard Park Academy on Sunday 23 March for the seventh annual Mad March Hare in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Most were probably feeling positive that the bright but chilly weather would see them around the 5k or 10k course around West Swindon and Lydiard Park.
But as the participants prepared to get under starters order with a bit of zumba inspired stretching, dark clouds reared up from the west soon accompanied by wind and driving rain with a short burst of a biting hailstorm.
However the community gathering which is organised totally by volunteers from Swindon lifted everybody’s spirits.
When total sponsorship has been counted up, the grand total of £62,000 raised since the event started should be boosted significantly.
