Wiltshire Police joined in the spirit of gay pride by dressing up a squad car in the internationally recognised colours of the LGBT movement to take part in the parade at Swindon & Wiltshire Pride on Saturday 10 August.
Swindon & Wiltshire Pride provides access to support groups and works towards eliminating discrimination in relation to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender people via education.
The theme for Swindon & Wiltshire pride this year was in support of gay marriage which has now be passed into law and will come into effect next year. An organsing committee spokesperson welcomed the participating of Wiltshire Police in the parade for the first time to promote equality and diversity within the community.
"This support for the LGBT community by joining in the parade was very well received. We had many positive comments from committee members, people walking in the parade as well as members of the public. We think it’s fantastic that the off duty Wiltshire police officers showed their support in this way."
David Edwards-Loaring on Facebook said: “It is great to see the UK Police supporting their LGBT Community unlike their counterparts in Russia…”
