In December Peatmoor was the safest part of Swindon according to the Government’s new crime overview website www.police.uk. February’s statistics will show the area as one of the most troubled after nine people were arrested following a street altercation in Letteridge Road.
Neighbourhood beat manager Tom Turner, right, said the 16 to 18 year olds lived in other parts of West Swindon but gathered in Peatmoor before the police intervened. Investigations continue and further arrests are possible.
He is pleased to report that seven people arrested at last September’s fair outside Link Centre had appeared in court on charges varying from robbery, common assault and actual bodily harm. “We could not have secured this result without the help of information from the community, staff at Link Centre and the West Swindon Centre, and local schools.”
He also appealed for vehicle owners to lock their cars. “We’ve seen a surge in thefts from cars in the West, but over 60 per cent are not locked,” he said. “I urge people not to leave valuables in the open and to lock up their vehicles.”
