Swindon College Garden Design Students, the Swindon Rotary Club, and Victim Support Wiltshire have been working together to make an 'sanctuary' for witnesses and supporters at the Swindon Crown Court.
The group of Swindon College City & Guilds Garden Design students were given a brief to re-design the Witness Garden which would allow for privacy, separate seating areas, have sheltered areas and be low maintenance and accessible to all.
Victim Support Wiltshire were so impressed with the professional designs from all the students that they came to the College to present a cash prize to the top three garden designs.
Nicky Jupp, Victim Support Wiltshire, PR & Fundraising Manager gave £25 to 3rd place designer Claire Tubb, £50 to 2nd place designer Linda Brown and 1st prize went to Karen Neal with £75, pictured.
At the presentation Nicky said, "Karen's design was chosen for the simplicity of the design and it completely met the brief criteria. Her knowledge of planting for the space, additional sketches and professional layout was excellent and we hope that Karen will be a fundamental part of the team that will help make her vision a reality."
Swindon Rotary Club members are providing the labour to transform the current space into Karen's theraputic garden, but to make this happen funds are needed to purchase the equipment and plants.
