Members of Swindon People’s Assembly will be protesting outside the Civic Offices, Euclid Street, Swindon, on Tuesday 15 April at 4.30pm, demanding that Mayor Nick Martin resign.
Genni Pavone of Swindon People’s Assembly said: “Mayor Martin’s disgraceful comments against disabled people and his subsequent forced apology are simply not acceptable. We demand nothing less than his immediate resignation. Is this the type of person we want representing Swindon as our Mayor?”
Kate Linnegar, secretary of SPA said: “Delegates from Swindon went to the People’s Assembly Against Austerity conference in March this year. We resolved to ensure that the rights of ill and disabled people are forefront in everything the People’s Assembly does and that we will continue to campaign tirelessly in support of this valued group within our communities.
"We don’t feel that Mayor Martin is the right person to represent all the people of Swindon as their Mayor, in light of his appalling comments.”
Everyone is invited to come along to this peaceful protest.
