inSwindon BID Company, on behalf of the retailers of Swindon town centre, would like to cordially invite everyone to celebrate the 2013 Christmas Lights Switch-On at Wharf Green in the town centre on Thursday 21 November, writes Michaela Rowland.
The evening will commence at an earlier time of 4.30pm this year to coincide with the launch of Thursday late night shopping.
Local mascots and street theatre performers will be entertaining the crowd from 4pm – giving away a goodie or two before we kick off with a fantastic line-up of live entertainment.
Musicians such as Nathan Jones and his Allstar Jazz Band, Charlie-Anne, Colour The Atlas and Josh Kumra will be getting everyone in the Christmas spirit, before we dazzle the crowds with fantastic performances from Swindon Dance, Swindon Ovation, our aerial hoop performer Emily Smith, plus, an exclusive Big Screen appearance from Keith Chegwin.
Before the Big Switch on at 6pm, we’ll have a visit from some of the Swindon Town Football players and dancing along to Blitz Buddies and Josie and the Outlaws – plus Swindon’s very own Jahmene Douglas will be returning to the stage!
Our star who will be pushing the plunger to illuminate the town with our fantastic Christmas lights will be announced nearer the time – so watch this space as the event we’ve all been waiting for is almost here!
The climax of the evening will see the sky spring to life with a fantastic firework display above The Big Screen.
Yet the evening doesn’t end there- late night shopping will resume as normal for the festive period, so it could be the perfect opportunity to grab a warming drink and take a look around with friends and loved ones.
That’s Entertainment will also be open; with acts from the Lights Switch On signing their very own CDs in store.
