At the Redhouse Residents’ Association meeting in June PC Troy Smith of Swindon North Neighbourhood Policing Team(NPT) presented police perspectives on the area and talked about dealing with anti-social behaviour and graffiti, writes Juliet Platt.
Residents were keen to discuss traffic related questions, particularly about how the police can influence parking behaviour and the problems of access to traffic clogged streets by the emergency services.
Troy explained that there are no police powers regarding breaches of the Highway Code and traffic regulations are unenforceable until roads are adopted by the council. The residents’ association committee is now looking into ways of engaging the developers in better enforcement, especially where health and safety to residents is at risk.
To contact the police (for crimes not in progress, anti-social behaviour, suspicious incidents or neighbourhood issues) call 0845 408700.
Troy said a new text message service has been launched by the police where residents can contact members of the NPT when they are on patrol, rather than going through the Devizes call centre. To register contact Troy at: email@example.com
To give information anonymously call Crimestopers on 0800 555111.
