Tickets for the Big Screen events are now open for registration. inSwindon, Forward Swindon and the BBC have partnered together for the fourth year running to bring you some great screenings at the Big Screen this summer.
It all starts with two weeks of Wimbledon from Monday 20 June through to Sunday 3 July. On four days during the two-week tournament Swindon’s Delta Tennis Centre will set up a “mini tennis zone” including a full-sized court, complete with umpire’s chair and artificial grass. The centre’s team of coaches will invite players – from three years old upwards – to have a go.
The sessions will take place from 10am to around 5pm on Thursday June 23 Saturday, and Thursday, June 30, as well as during Wimbledon’s grand finale on Saturday and Sunday, July 2-3, when the finals take place. The ‘tennis experience’ will involve Delta staff offering members of the public the chance to take part in coaching sessions.
Following Wimbledon, Wharf Green will once again play host to the annual screening live from the Royal Opera House. This year Swindon’s Big Screen will be relaying the popular Madama Butterfly, composed by Giacomo Puccini. The story of a Japanese geisha’s love for an American naval officer moved Puccini to compose music of rare and sensual beauty, but also of heartrending power as the tragedy unfolds to its devastating conclusion.
The screening will take place on Monday 4 July. Pre-show entertainment is currently being finalised but the main curtain rises at 7.30pm.
Wharf Green will be laid out with artificial grass so you are invited to bring along your picnics and enjoy the comfort of the open air arena.
Wharf Green will then be host to Last Night of the Proms, screened live from the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday 10 September. In previous years many people have enjoyed this event and waived a flag whilst singing along to Land of Hope and Glory and other well known anthems. Again you are invited along with your picnics to enjoy yet another fabulous screening from the Royal Albert Hall.
To register for FREE tickets for either Madama Butterfly or Last Night of the Proms please email: email@example.com with the title of the event in the subject heading. Entitlement is a maximum of four tickets per person and these will be sent electronically once registered. You must then bring your tickets to the event for validation.
