Autumn is here and the children have started full time school for the first time. Now you have a bit more time on your hands thoughts turn to earning a bit more money. What do you do? Maybe returning to the line of work you did before doesn’t appeal anymore….
When it was time for Michelle’s youngest son to start school she sat down with a life coach to discuss her career.
‘Having a small child can be all consuming, sometimes you lose your way a bit, lose your sense of identity. I knew I didn’t want to return to my work as an advertising executive, the long hours and high pressure environment just didn’t appeal to me anymore. I wanted to be there for my son when he finished school to hear about his day, be there for school plays and assemblies. I didn’t want to miss a second of those precious moments. Having worked with coaches in my previous job I knew how much more progress I would make in reaching my decisions about my future plans and making them a reality by working with a life coach’
Louise Rankin is a life coach, mum of one and founder of Project Oyster which supports mums who want a career change or to start a new business as well as those busy working mums and mumpreneurs who want to regain some balance in their lives.
‘At Project Oyster I hear from more and more women all over the country who are driven by the desire to work for themselves doing something they love. By working with me they accelerate their journey to their dream lives, successful businesses and ideal work life balance’ states Louise.
Project Oyster is offering coaching sessions at £30 (less than half the usual fee) to all Swindon Link readers who mention this article.
Michelle continues, ‘By working with Louise I discovered that I had an intensely creative side that I needed to express. Although I had attended art college I had somehow got swept into a corporate world. Having produced illustrated cards for friends and family for years I had somehow overlooked a useful skill that gave me a lot of pleasure and could also earn me money. Six months down the line I have started a business illustrating cards and have just landed my first commission to illustrate a children’s book, achieving a long term dream of mine.’
With new research suggesting that 39% of British mothers are turning to their own skills, creativity and initiative to make money it seems mothers are becoming more entrepreneurial than ever. We’ve all heard about the kitchen table tycoons, Dame Anita Roddick being one of the originals building up The Body Shop from producing ethical beauty products in her kitchen.
If you would like your life to be different, perhaps make a career change, begin working doing something you love then give Louise a call to have a chat about your ideas. Maybe you’re a mum on maternity leave dreading going back to work, whatever your situation as a mumpreneur Louise knows what it takes to keep the balance between being successful in business and managing a happy family life.
