If you've driven through Rodbourne lately you may well have seen a sign that has been hidden for 40 years – Terminus Cafe – revealed by builders renovating the former Clough's Typewriters shop in Rodbourne.
The first record of there being a cafe on this spot was in 1948 (prior to this it had been a general store).
Until 1929 trams used to run from here to Gorse Hill with a branch running through Bridge Street and Regent Street to Old Town. Buses then used to terminate here as they were unable to negotiate the low bridge as it was at that time.
Despite a new higher bridge being built in 1956 meaning buses no longer terminated there, the cafe survived until 1969.
