If you’ve ever thought of yourself as an undiscovered egg-head, your big break might be just round the corner thanks to the Blunsdon Arms. The Swindon pub is participating in The Great Ember Quiz, a national contest to find the brainiest pub in Britain which is being fronted by Catchphrase legend Roy Walker!
In an effort to raise £20,000 for learning disability charity Mencap, national pub group Ember hopes to uncover the ultimate brainiacs of 135 towns across the UK in a series of pub heats taking place between 1-31 March. The highest scoring team from each pub will then be pitted against one another at one of 11 regional finals taking place across the UK.
The teams with the best regional reasoning will each win a place at the coveted national final, hosted by Roy Walker, on Saturday 14 May. Here, 11 teams will go head-to-head for the chance to scoop the first prize of £4,000 and £2,000 reward for runner up, not to mention the title of ‘Champions of The Great Ember Quiz 2011’.
Roy Walker comments: “I’m delighted to be fronting the inaugural Great Ember Quiz in aid of Mencap, to support people with a learning disability, their families and carers. It’s for a great cause, so I’m encouraging everyone in Swindon to show their support for the Blunsdon Arms – they need their best quality quizzers to ensure they get all the way to the final!
“It’s going to be a lot of fun and if you follow my advice and Say What You See, you can’t go wrong! So show your support for you local Ember pub, while raising money for Mencap by popping to a pub quiz this March.”
What’s more, J20, the fruit drinks for adults, and Beck’s beer will be giving on-the-spot prizes for teams with the most imaginative names – so use your brain at every stage!
Remember, to bring home the title you have to be in it to win it; details of heat nights will be available from each Ember pub, so muster up your mastermind team for your chance to be £4,000 richer.
