SWINDON College Old Boys defied a host of absences to begin their Berks/Bucks & Oxon campaign with a 17-8 victory over Chipping Norton yesterday.
As was also the case last weekend when Old Boys beat Fairford in cup competition, the Nationwide side were missing a number of players due to a wedding, but put in a thorough display to come away with victory thanks to two tries through the forwards.
Director of rugby Martyn Lloyd missed the game to attend the wedding, but was pleased to see his side get off to a winning start.
“It’s been a little difficult for us to be honest because on the first two weeks of the season we’ve had players missing for club weddings, including myself this week, but to get a win is an excellent start," he said.
“We were missing some good players but those who stepped up did superbly well to get the win and it gives us a really good platform to work from.”
