In September, New College opened a new Annexe, expanding the campus by an additional 35%.
The new building provides many additional facilities for students at the college. As well as extra classrooms and specialist teaching facilities, the Student Services department has expanded providing a one-stop shop for information, advice and guidance, careers advice, additional support and exams advice. There is a new enrichment centre for students to use between timetabled lessons, with board games and computer games. The Students Union are also based in this room.
A new hair and beauty area ‘Distinction’ has enabled New College to diversify their already large range of courses on offer to students to include Beauty Therapy, Complimentary Therapies and Hair and Media Make-Up.
Provision for Higher Education (degree level) courses and business training for employers has also been expanded with a dedicated floor in the Annexe. There is a new lecture theatre and the Open Learning Centre has also been extended into the new building.
The Annexe was officially opened at a launch ceremony by England rugby legend Matt Dawson, along with local MPs Robert Buckland and Justin Tomlinson.
Matt said: “It is clear that New College are pioneers in developing the opportunities given to young people. They do a sterling job and the facilities are superb.
“It is a real privilege to declare the new New College annexe officially open.”
Graham Taylor, Principal of New College, said of the new development: “We are dedicated to providing the best experience for learners, whether they are young learners studying for A Levels and GCSEs, apprenticeships, vocational qualifications or adult students taking degrees, topping up their qualifications or learning for interest, recreation and pleasure.
“We are delighted with our new annexe and the facilities we can now provide to our students, business and the local community.”
