Disabled sportsmen and women in Swindon have been given a major boost by Wooden Spoon, the RFU Charity, which has raised £8,550 to purchase new sports wheelchairs.
Wooden Spoon chairman for Wiltshire, Gareth said:" We understand it is a dream come true that they can seek to perform at the highest levels. We wish them well".
Swindon St George Wheelchair Tag Rugby Club and Swindon Shock Wheelchair Basketball Club appealed to Wooden Spoon for special wheelchairs to help them pursue their sports ambitions in tag rugby and basketball for the first time.
Ben Humphrey. who co-ordinates the basketball teams said:" The superb gesture will equip our disabled athletes for the next decade and also provide us with the resources to inspire the next generation of Paralympic athletes".
The award is within the key objectives of Wooden Spoon to help children with a disability in the county. It is the eighth project in Wiltshire funded by Wooden Spoon in the past three years to help young people enjoy a more active and fulfilling lifestyle.
To celebrate the award the club will be staging a special friendly wheelchair rugby match against a select Wooden Spoon celebrity team on Saturday July 12 at Isambard Community School, Sports Hall, Swindon SN25 2ND at 11.30am.
