Children at Hazelwood Academy in Toothill received an early visit from Father Christmas and his reindeer at their Christmas Fayre on Tuesday 17 December.
Rudolph couldn’t make it because he’s preparing for the big outing on 24 December, but he sent Cracker and Tinkerbell with their handler Kay Houghton of Animal Dramatics.
Children in their classes were introduced to the animals and were able to ask questions about how reindeer live, and then were able to return with their parents during the fayre to have their pictures taken on a sleigh with Santa.
The event was the first big fundraiser since the school became an academy in the summer term, said headteacher Suzanne Lloyd. "We’ve been so busy to ensure the smooth transition to becoming an academy, but we decided to step back from all the official work and have some fun to celebrate our first Christmas as Hazelwood Academy.
"The staff and children worked really hard to get everything ready, busily making homemade crafts, biscuit decorating, bauble painting and decorating miniature reindeers.
"Having the real reindeer here gave us the chance to put some sparkle into the last week of term, a chance to get parents and grandparents involved as well."
