Join a short, sociable walk this Sunday 24 June to explore some of the best kept secrets in Swindon. This walk forms part of a free monthly programme of short walks as part of ‘Get Walking Swindon’; a partnership between the Ramblers, Swindon Borough Council and NHS Swindon to produce interesting walking routes around the town and encourage more people to get walking.
Amanda Rothwell, Walk Swindon Development Officer for Swindon Borough Council said: “We want people to get active and explore everything Swindon has to offer, including wonderful green spaces and interesting local history. Whether coming along on one of our walks led by our experienced volunteers, or downloading one of the many interesting routes online and trying it out on your own, with family or with friends, we hope to see more people than ever walking about in our borough.”
Sunday 24 June: ‘The green spaces and history of Stratton St Margaret’
Start time: 10:30am
Meeting Point: Stratton Leisure Centre, SN3 4JY
Distance: 3 miles (1.5 hours)
Description: A short, 3 mile walk at an easy pace exploring wonderful green spaces and discovering historical gems in Stratton St Margaret. This walk is free to join, there is no need to book a spot, just arrive at the meeting point on the day and introduce yourself to the walk leader, Jane Baldwin. Everyone taking part in this walk will receive a free pedometer so you can start counting your steps!
With hidden history, picturesque parks and waterside wanders on offer, the aim is to entice people in Swindon to get outside, get healthy and discover a different side to their town.
The “light and leisurely” Sunday walks are led by Ramblers volunteers and are all 3-4 miles long, ideal for people who have been doing shorter health walks and are looking to stretch their legs a little further or for those who want to enjoy a fun morning out with the family.
