The Queen’s Park Community Garden will be celebrating its official opening to the community at 2pm on Sunday 30 June.
Funded by a ‘Changing Spaces’ grant from the Big Lottery Fund and working with Groundwork UK, the group have transformed an unused space on the east side of Queen’s Park into a vibrant community garden. Called the Secret Garden, the space will be open every day during park hours.
A work in progress, visitors to the garden will find four areas being developed into a vegetable garden, a wildlife habitat, a sensory garden and an open space for social gatherings. The group’s future plans for the garden include demonstrations, workshops, art projects and community picnics. There are many opportunities for people to participate, from simply enjoying the space to tending the garden or helping organise events.
Everyone is welcome to the launch party; cakes and cold drinks will be served. The event will be an opportunity to explore the garden and celebrate this exciting new community space.
