With 40 bands playing over 4 days, across 6 venues with over 100 hours of live music, the Swindon Shuffle is putting the Swindon music scene well and truly on the map.
Raising money for the Prospect Hospice at home appeal the Swindon Shuffle is the brainchild of five local musicians, promoters and DJ’s. Richard Craven, Phil Dyson, Paul Jellings, Neil Gammon and Tim McDonald, (who run Songs Of Praise, Black Lava and YankeeBoy promotions between them). They decided they wanted to celebrate the thriving Swindon Music Scene whilst raising funds for a local charity.
Taking inspiration from the Camden Crawl and Oxford Punt, they felt it time that Swindon had its very own annual festival to be proud of.
Shuffle Co-founder Richard Craven said: “The Music Scene in Swindon is the best I have ever known it and we wanted to show people what goes on in this town of ours.”
Paul Jellings from Songs of Praise commented, “For different promoters to come together and organise one big event is a fantastic feat, and another reason why the Shuffle is a unique event. It is an event that is generating interest outside of Swindon, as it is run by the music scene and showcases the music scene”.
The Swindon Shuffle starts on Thursday 19 July at the winners lounge at Swindon Town Football Club. Puttyfoot promotions who run regular Thursday night gigs at the venue are kicking off the main weekend with a fringe event. Bands the Unforeseen, Durera and Thorne will be playing
“It is great to be able to use the main music venues in Swindon to put on such a quality line up of acts over a 4 day period”, added Rich Craven. “Adding an extra day on the Thursday just means we can add in even more bands to what is becoming the talked about music event”.
The Swindon Shuffle is taking place over the weekend of 20-22 July with the fringe event on the 19th. It features 40 acts including Buswell, Electric City Heights, Veer Luth, Rag Doll Girl, Black Eyed Dog and Seven Years On. Being hosted by 6 of the town’s key music venues The 12 Bar, The Rolleston, The Furnace, The Victoria, The Beehive and the STFC winners lounge.
The Swindon Shuffle is officially supported by the Swindon Cultural Partnership, set up to help re-vitalise Swindon's reputation as a confident, progressive and successful place to live, work and play; Frequency Magazine, Swindon’s arts and culture magazine; Artsminds, the free forum and network for Swindon's creative arts practitioners; Swindonmusic.co.uk, the Swindon music forum and; 4th Street records who helped in the production of the official Swindon Shuffle CD, that includes tracks from 16 of the bands playing over the Shuffle weekend.
