One of Rotary’s newest clubs will be making festive music in aid of charity at Swindon’s Outlet Centre on Saturday.
Members of the District 1100 eClub will be dressing up in Christmas costumes and joining forces with Zurich Cares’ choir, Makin’ MuZic for a fund-raising event on Saturday, December 3.
They will be singing for shoppers and help festive spirits soar, on what is traditionally the first major day of Christmas shopping, at the Outlet Centre from 3pm to 5pm.
Makin’ MuZic is an amateur, non-auditioned choir based in Swindon. Originally formed in 2008 by Zurich Financial Services employees, they have now expanded their numbers to include staff from Capita, Openwork and other companies. They have raised thousands of pounds for Zurich Cares’ charities by performing concerts. Money raised from the concert at the Outlet Centre will go to both Zurich Cares and to Rotary International’s “End Polio” cause campaign.
Rotary eClub president, Tim Mason, said: “This will be the first fund-raiser our club has become involved with and we’re delighted to be joining forces with Makin’ MuZic, who have been involved with quite a few charity events in Swindon.
“While shoppers will be hunting for gifts galore, I’m sure the choir will keep spirits up, and we hope to raise some money for two very worthwhile causes.”
There are currently four Rotary clubs in Swindon. The new eRotary club also serves the town but reaches out as far as Hereford, Worcester and North Somerset.
The eClub is targeted at professional people who are unable to attend regular weekly Rotary meetings. Instead, meetings are held online. Already, the new club has attracted a considerable number of new members from across the region but is continuing to recruit.
“Since launching the eClub this summer, we’ve attracted a lot of interest from a wide range of people,” added Tim, who lives in North Swindon.
“We are looking to attract people who may have never thought of joining Rotary before because of the nature of their jobs. What we are doing is using technology as a means of communication which fits into people’s busy lifestyles.
“As a club, we interact online, and during 2012 we plan to become involved with a number of community projects in the region. “
