Swindon Rugby Club has launched a tag rugby initiative in primary schools with sessions for the children and support for the teachers to integrate tag rugby activities into PE lessons.
Goddard Park, Gorse Hill, Shaw Ridge, Oliver Tomkins, Holy Rood, and Red Oaks took up the offer of support earlier in the year and the squads are preparing to take part in a tag competition next July.
Each school will be entering teams from Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 to take part in matches .
Schools’ liaison officer Steve George said: “The initial reason for SRFC getting involved with primary schools was witnessing the ever growing number of 4, 5, and 6 year old children enjoying Sunday morning rugby at the club.”
“Tag rugby lends itself brilliantly to getting boys and girls playing a common sport and involving all sporting skill levels, and personalities.”
