The building contractors currently working on Prospect’s Heart of the Hospice project will be pulling a sleigh across Swindon to raise funds for the Hospice.
On Thursday 16 December, a 12-strong team from Beard Construction, dressed as reindeer, will be pulling Santa from Greenbridge Retail Park to the Swindon Designer Outlet Centre to raise funds for Prospect. As well as 12 reindeer pulling the sleigh, there will also be 2 elves, 2 little helpers, 2 marshalls, and of course, Santa himself, making a 19-strong team from Beard involved in the fundraiser.
Setting off at 2pm, the team are planning to get to the Outlet Village at 4pm, where children from Lawn Primary School will be singing carols with local folk band, Itchy Feet, between 5pm and 7pm.
Sarah Roberts, business development co-ordinator at Beard, said: “It’s been a real team effort getting the event together. As well as the 19 staff involved on the day, some of the Beard craftsmen did a fantastic job in building the sleigh.
“Beard staff are actively encouraged to participate in work for good causes, often with the support of the company and other employees. We also donate and provide expertise to charities and not-for profit projects, in particular local schemes that benefit the communities in which we work.
“We have great respect and appreciation for the vital work that the Prospect Hospice carry out and are proud to help in any way we can.”
The Heart of The Hospice is a project to convert the open-air, enclosed courtyard in the Hospice into a shared dining space for staff, visitors, patients and their families. It has been funded by a one-off grant from the Department of Health which can only be used for this specific project. More information on how the project is progressing can be found on our blog.
“We’re obviously looking for people to sponsor us and donate as much money as we can,” said Sarah, “but of course it would be great to get support on the day too. So if you see 12 reindeer pulling Santa through Swindon, why not cheer us along?”
