Staff members from the “Society Matters” group at Alcatel-Lucent have raised £360 to sponsor breakfasts at the Broadgreen Breakfast Club for a week in February
The “Sponsor a Breakfast” scheme aims to cover the cost for each of the six days a week the breakfast club serves a hot breakfast to those without a home or otherwise in need. Sponsoring breakfast for a day costs £60, (or £50 with Gift Aid). For companies, groups or perhaps a departmental challenge, sponsoring a week will cost £360.
One of the group Louise Farrow said “We are very pleased to help the homeless in this way and have a tangible outcome … breakfast for 6 days”
Helen Seward presented the cheque to Chairman of the charity Angus Macpherson.
Angus said “ Staff at Alcatel-Lucent are the third group to take up our challenge. We hope others will follow. Sponsoring breakfast makes a real difference to a lot of people especially in this cold weather ……. we will even invite sponsors to join us for a full english!”.
“The idea is to make donating easily accessible to individuals and groups but with a tangible outcome. We hope it will appeal to offices, departments, faith groups, or anyone who wants a bit of a challenge. Dates from March onwards are available”
Broadgreen Breakfast Club operates Monday to Saturday, between 7am and 8.30am, cooking breakfast for 30 to 40 people some of whom are sleeping rough, those with no permanent address or simply living off a very low income.
It is run by a group of volunteers, with help from a small number of paid workers. During the sessions professionals provide advice on housing, health, benefits and employment.
