This is part of a major investment programme announced by Sport England. Across England, 38 artificial grass pitches and swimming pool changing rooms will be replaced and refurbished following a Sport England announcement of £9.9 million of investment from its new Improvement Fund.
Responding to this announcement, Chris Lewis of Oasis Waterpark Limited welcomed the announcement: “This is a significant help to our work in refurbishing the Oasis by Moirai Leisure Centre and we are deeply grateful to Sport England for providing this support.
"As previously announced, we have engaged in a programme of work which will bring the facilities in the Oasis by Moirai Leisure Centre up to the highest standards. The provision of upgraded changing facilities is an important part of that programme, to which this grant will make a major contribution.
"The Oasis by Moirai Leisure Centre is a very important facility for the area, providing a wide range of resources for physical activity. I am sure that those using the Centre will be delighted by the news of this grant, and will welcome the improved upgrading of the changing rooms, together with the other improvements being made to the Centre."
Sport England Property Director, Charles Johnston, added: “As the research shows people have a better experience of sport when the facilities are good both on and off the pitch. These investments on artificial grass pitches and swimming pool changing rooms will have a big impact on sport in local communities.”
Sport England is focused on helping people and communities across the country create a sporting habit for life. Over £1 billion of National Lottery and Exchequer funding will be invested between 2012 and 2017 in organisations and projects that:
• Help more people have a sporting habit for life
• Create more opportunities for young people to play sport
• Nurture and develop talent
• Provide the right facilities in the right places
• Support local authorities and unlock local funding
• Ensure real opportunities for communities.
