The romance of the railways is alive and kicking and to prove it, award-winning STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway is opening its doors for civil ceremonies, having just had its licence approved.
Couples from Swindon and beyond will be able to tie the knot in a setting that is sure to set hearts racing. STEAM can offer a choice of locations within the Museum site to hold wedding ceremonies and receptions amongst the famous exhibits, including the charismatic 1930s station platform and the spectacular Caerphilly Castle, pictured below.
Ian Surtees, Events Manager for STEAM said, "we are thrilled to get the go-ahead to hold civil ceremonies at STEAM. The Museum is filled with romance and charm and we believe it makes the perfect venue for those who are searching for something a bit different for their big day."
The popular Museum venue already has a wealth of experience in holding wedding receptions, corporate events and private parties.
Ian Surtees added: "STEAM decided to apply for a civil ceremony licence in January, following last year's massive success in attracting visitors and the huge growth in corporate events and private parties held at the Museum. We felt that the time was right to offer both civic ceremonies and wedding receptions."
Civil Ceremonies include Civil Partnerships, naming ceremonies and the re-affirmation of wedding vows.
Wedding planners will also be interested in the Wedding Fair to be held in STEAM's Special Events Hall on Sunday 22 April. The event is free and is hosted by 'P' Productions who will stage the complete wedding experience, including a showcase of bridal fashions, hairdressing demonstrations, photography, catering and all the trimmings. Catering will be a bit better than the railway buffet of yesteryear pictured here
