Swindon College’s Level 1 Automotive students are running free post winter vehicle checks for employees of the ABC charity as part of their community challenge with the help and guidance of the level 2 students.
ABC is a friendly Swindon based cancer charity that provides support for patients, carers, relatives and friends.
The offer is running until the end of the month, where students will be conducting checks on lights, wiper blade conditions, oil, electrics, washer fluid levels, and tyre pressures to name a few.
Trevor Sherwood, Automotive course tutor said: “Breakdowns are common in colder climates so the change of the seasons is a great time to go through some once / twice a year maintenance checks.
"We have had a number of bookings and I’m really pleased with their enthusiasm and eagerness to want to make a difference. The students are really enjoying the valuable experience of putting the technical skills they have learnt so far into practice.”
Fred Bassett, part of the ABC group said: “The project is brilliant and it’s wonderful the students are getting involved with working in the community and working on real customers’ cars. The check took about an hour in total and I’m so impressed I am bringing my wife’s car in tomorrow too! She is also part of the charity. The students have been great; they’ve done a really good job.”
