Year 9 students watch liquid nitrogen display as part of STEM event at New College
Interactive workshops, inspirational speakers, careers speed networking and a spectacular liquid nitrogen display were all part of an exciting STEM event at New College.
School pupils from St John’s, Dorcan, Isambard, Churchfieds and Ridgeway visited New College Swindon to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
170 pupils took part in STEM Day, which hosted a variety of hands on workshops including boat building and archaeological bone dating.
Science in Hollywood
Guest speaker Dr Jonathon Hare kicked things off with a talk about Science in Hollywood and Dr Christian Frost ended the day with an impressive liquid nitrogen display.
Dr Stephanie Foreman, Team Leader for Maths and Science at New College said: “The day was highly stimulating and experiences included hammering a nail into wood with an orange, building and testing a lighthouse, building bridges and extracting DNA.
"Feedback from pupils and staff was extremely positive with our diverse, interactive, and often competitive workshop activities being the most popular.”
