Two Swindon College School of Art Students have won top awards in the Student Starpack Awards.
A number of Higher Education Graphic Design Students entered the international competition this year. The prestigeous international competition is organised by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (Incorporating IOP: The Packaging Society. Each year, Swindon College students have been successful winning prizes at the Student Starpack Awards.

The School of Art Students were presented with their awards at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining headquarters in Pall Mall, London. This year's competition saw 250 entries. The 2008 panel of judges awarded a total of 32 Student Starpack Stars to those students whose work scored in excess of 66 per cent.
The Judges were: Tony Hackforth, Chairman and former Marketing Manager, Waddington plc; Janie Burrows, Arts Development Manager, Tigerprint; Nick Farrow, Director, Farrows, Design Consultancy; Tim Lynch, Marketing Services Manager, Britvic Soft Drinks; Hanna Isseyegh, Packaging Developer, Marks & Spencer; Lauren Brummit, 3D Designer, Tigerprint.
The judges were looking for students who are capable of designing packs that are not only attractive graphically, but which also meet the functional requirements and can be produced cost-effectively and focused on environmental issues.
Bronwen Reeves, a second year Swindon College Graphic Design student was awarded a Silver Star (one of only two awarded for this brief) for her 'BCME Can Makers' sponsored design for organic custard. Bronwen also received the sponsors prize of a cheque for £500.
This year's other winner was Lawrie Edwards, who was awarded the top judges prize of a gold star and the runners up sponsors award of £100, from the sponsors, Britvic Soft Drinks, for his colourful Pepsi Fridge pack. Only three stars were awarded for this brief.
