At 80 years old, Pam Boseley of Haydon Wick will become the oldest person ever to abseil the 83 ft drop off the Don Rogers Stand at Swindon County Ground when she makes the leap in October in aid of Prospect Hospice.
“I need both my knees replacing and everyone thinks I’m mad to do it,” said Pam, below. “But I’ve told my consultant at the Great Western that I’m going to do this abseil come hell or high water, and he said I can have the operation later in the year”
Julie Brogan, challenge events fundraiser at Prospect Hospice said “Pam’s a real asset to our cause. She’s so proactive and is forever on the phone asking me for more sponsorship forms. The abseil instructors who will be supervising the event are amazed that such an elderly lady is up for the challenge.”
Pam is a breast cancer survivor, but knows many people who were looked after at the hospice before losing their own battle with the disease. She said, “I thought it was about time I did something to remember them by, and I just want to raise lots of money for the hospice which does such a wonderful job.”
Anyone aged 14 or over can Abseil for Prospect on 2 October. For details about taking part, call Julie Brogan on 816161 or mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
