The Chief Whip of the Bangladesh Parliament Abdus Shahid called into the Taj Mahal restaurant on 9 July to enjoy lunch with owner Arju Miah and the Mayor and Mayoress of Swindon Rex and Sandra Barnett who presented him with a cut glass memento etched with the Borough of Swindon logo.
Mr Shahid has been visiting people with origins in Bangladesh who are important to supporting the economy of his country.
Mr Miah said he was delighted that Mr Shahid chose to visit the Taj Mahal. “We were very honoured to entertain Mr Shahid who is a very important person in the Bangladesh government.”
