Shoppers in London’s Piccadilly Circus were treated to a special message about the benefits of shopping Swindon last week thanks to the town’s award winning public relations agency, Vox PR.
The message, which read ‘Merry Christmas London! But why aren’t you all shopping in Swindon??! Brilliant bargains just an hour away J Love Vox PR x’, was shown on one of the huge advertising screens in Piccadilly Circus through a Twitter-based initiative run by Coca Cola.
Christmas tweets to Coca Cola’s @cokezone Twitter account are chosen to appear on the big screen and Vox PR saw this as the ideal opportunity to support the town centre’s shops and the benefits of coming to the town to Christmas shop.
Sue Pycroft, co-founder of Vox PR, said: “Social media platforms like Twitter can be a crucial communications tool for companies of all sizes and in all industries. Twitter is a great way to communicate with current and potential customers – targeting people in your local community as well as those in other towns and cities who may not be aware of you. Our social media specialist, Eleanor Collins, is continually searching for opportunities to promote our clients on the national and international stage and her dogged research and quick thinking allowed us to take advantage of this cost-free but highly effective initiative by Coca Cola.
“The team at Vox is very supportive of our town’s shops and believe that they can rival some of our nearest big centres and cities, particularly when you’re looking for a bargain. We also wanted to highlight just how close we are to London and so Swindon really is an easy shopping destination.
“The combination of the big names and independent retailers in the town centre, as well as the choice in the outlet village, is often dismissed by shoppers who venture out of the area to shop – but we think that shouldn’t always be the case.”
Vox PR represents a number of the town’s retailers and big business names, including The Brunel and The Parade in the town centre and also produces the monthly inSwindon Advertiser supplement.
