A Christmas shelter for the homeless received further welcome support today from Swindon-based company Hills Waste Solutions.
Hills has provided containers for collecting waste and recycling and this year has included a supply of hi-visibility vests that will be worn by the volunteers on each shift to make them easy to identify.
Hills became involved with the charity ten years ago when Tony Hill, director of Hills UK, and Christmas Care chairman Patsy Moloney were both members of the Old Town Festival committee.
Tony and Mike Webster, group director of Hills Waste Solutions, met up with Patsy at the Queens Drive Methodist Church to present the hi-visibility vests and see how the appeal for donations was progressing.
Mike Webster, said: “The support that Christmas Care provides over the festive seasons makes a big difference to homeless and vulnerable people and we are pleased to be involved in helping the local community.”
Patsy Moloney, said: “I am so grateful for the help that we have been given from Hills. This project would not be able to run without all the donations and sponsorships that we have received from across the community of Swindon and in particular the volunteers who give up their time to work here over the Christmas period.”
The shelter, which has helped hundreds of people over the past 25 years, can accommodate around 70 guests each day where they are given food and hot drinks. They are also able to have a shower and a complete change of clothing and footwear.
The Christmas Care shelter is located at the Queen’s Drive Methodist Church in Swindon and is open from 11am on 24 December to 11am on 28 December.
Donations of sleeping bags, bedding, towels, clothing, footwear, toiletries, turkeys, vegetables, bacon, eggs and sausages are required.
